Dr.  Tuff's PhD dissertation research explored the experiences of Black girls and young women with physical activity, from elementary through high school. The goal was to understand what shaped their participation in those years to help health professionals create better programs that support Black girls and women stay active and healthy.

 Dr. Tuff led a children’s poster contest in Washington, DC–area schools to promote healthy eating during National Health Education Week. Students in 3rd–5th grades created posters showing what they learned about nutrition, and winners were celebrated at a national public health meeting. The project highlighted how creative, school-based activities can successfully engage children, families, and communities in health education.

In this feature on WUGA’s local news, Dr. Tuff and fellow University of Georgia Public Health graduates discussed how, in 2020, they came together amid the pandemic to form an alumni board in support of the College of Public Health. They share why establishing the board was both timely and impactful, highlighting its role in strengthening connections between alumni, students, and faculty across the UGA public health community.

This article explores how doing interviews in research is about more than just asking questions. It’s also about learning to reflect on yourself as a researcher your choices, perspectives, and the impact you have on the process. By practicing this kind of reflection, researchers can gather richer insights while also becoming more aware of how their own experiences shape the stories they hear and share.
